Dogtown Coffee, and it’s partner business, Dogtown Realty inhabit two spaces in a designated landmark structure that housed Jeff Ho Surfboards and Zephyr Productions in the 1970’s, the homebase of the ragtag group of youth, the Z-Boys, who revolutionized skateboarding in the 1970’s. The successor surf/skate shop, Horizons West, fell prey to the Great Recession in 2008 and the building remained empty until Assaf Raz and his partners entered into a lease for 2 of the spaces to begin establishing neighborhood-friendly businesses respectful of and building on the safe/skate culture of the Dogtown era.
